…YES…this includes the Christmas Party, which needed planning & preparations to begin in September.

Aug 19,2021: Postponed resumption of Social events
With the resignation of our Social Chair & a lack of a permanent Social Committee, we regret that all CUPE 520 social events will need to be put on pause until social positions are filled with Members willing to take on the work.
With the resumption of classes pending, Bargaining sessions & other District related meetings recommencing, conventions needing attention, & possible pending issues revolving around our office space, the remaining 5 Executive Members already have their work cut out for them for the foreseeable future.
We are hoping that someone will step up & take over the Social Chair position in short order & that one or two other Members could volunteer to sit on a permanent Social Committee to aid the Chairperson.
To volunteer for a Committee position, there is no minimum number of meetings required & no election needed. Committee Members are paid the per meeting rate for all work done on behalf of the Committee, as per our Bylaws (available for viewing/downloading in the Members section of this website).

Sep 22,2020: Outgoing Social Chair
After many years of stellar service to CUPE Local 520, Brother John Russo unexpectedly announced his pending retirement & chose to not run for re-election to Social Chair in 2020. John’s involvement in the many successful Local social events was apparent in his devotion to the details that make any event great. He leaves large shoes to fill.
John has graciously offered to act as the Local’s Social Committee Member to assist in the transition to our newly elected Social Chair, June Munoz.
Local 520 looks forward to our traditional social events returning shortly with our new Chair & Committee leading the way.
