Welcome to CUPE Local 520

CUPE 520 logoCUPE Local 520 represents Caretaking, Maintenance, & Warehouse staff of the Calgary Catholic School District.

CUPE Local 520 has caretaking staff in District schools & support worksites in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, & Chestermere. CUPE/CCSD LABOUR MANAGEMENT MEETINGS

Roughly every second month of the school year, CUPE 520 Table Officers meet with members of CCSD’s upper management to discuss pertinent issues. Those issues brought to the table (by either side) are expected to have either significant implications throughout District operations or be of consequential contractual concern. Lesser issues are dealt with in an ongoing manner between CUPE Local 520 Table Officers & the appropriate management team member.

If you have issues at your worksite, the best course of action is to send a detailed email to your Executive (see the Contact Us section) & to keep detailed personal notes of any interactions you have pertaining to your issue. We will decide the appropriate course of action. We need you to stand behind your complaint. It is not possible to move forward with hearsay complaints in any significant fashion.

LMM DATES:

September 2023-June 2024 to be announced at a later date.

CUPE Equality Statement

Union solidarity is based on the principle that union members are equal and deserve mutual respect at all levels. Any behaviour that creates conflict prevents us from working together to strengthen our union.

As unionists, mutual respect, cooperation and understanding are our goals. We should neither condone nor tolerate behaviour that undermines the dignity or self-esteem of any individual or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment.

Discriminatory speech or conduct which is racist, sexist, transphobic or homophobic hurts and thereby divides us. So too, does discrimination on the basis of ability, age, class, religion and ethnic origin.

Sometimes discrimination takes the form of harassment. Harassment means using real or perceived power to abuse, devalue or humiliate. Harassment should not be treated as a joke. The uneasiness and resentment that it creates are not feelings that help us grow as a union.

Discrimination and harassment focus on characteristics that make us different; and they reduce our capacity to work together on shared concerns such as decent wages, safe working conditions, and justice in the workplace, society and in our union.

CUPE’s policies and practices must reflect our commitment to equality. Members, staff and elected officers must be mindful that all sisters and brothers deserve dignity, equality and respect.
